Once Upon A Spy (1980)

An inspirational Segway from BlowUp!
Nice shadowdancing tease!

I've always appreciated this cat and canary labyrinth challenge.  From the light board in the foreground, to the graphic of the maze, to the jumpsuits.  The trap door is a definite bonus as well as the feathered hair! Early use of handsfree headset too!

"Well (pause) Brahilda it's like this when the cat's away!"

Sometimes reality is the strangest fantasy of all!

More Cawston Ostrich!

Ebay Auction: Buy it Now price $80.00.  With original box from Cawston Ostrich Farm.

...Ostrich in So. Calif...

Ebay Shopping: Cawston Ostrich Feather

Up for auction on Ebay is a lot of 7-vintage Ostrich feathers.  Including this off-white plume above.  It still retains its original "CAWSTON" label.  Cawston had botiques selling Ostrich plume products in every major city in the U.S.  They even had a repair department "old plumes may appear more valuable than apparent."  If you sent them your old feathers, they would clean, repair, re-dye and suggest ways  fashioning them into different products. Bids for this lot sit at $6.59.  Ending in 2 days! Shipping is $3.00 within the U.S.

King Of Birds!

"In the midst of wild oak, palm, and orange trees, with flowers on every hand, the ostrich has resumed his natural traits and habits - interesting, educational and amusing to watch."

"...four days after hatching the baby ostrich goes without food.  ...begins to eat gravel, alfalfa, grain, oranges, vegetables, and from time to time, small rocks and other hard substances as an aid to digestion."

"In no case are plumes plucked. They are clipped close to the skin by an absolute harmless process."  The brochure reassures me: "Only the wing and tail feathers from the male birds are taken." Whew.

"... Audobon society thoroughly approves and heartily endorses the use of ostrich feathers in millinery purposes."

Regards to the ostrich plume:
"... no other article of adornment more popular...sought by royalty and beauty-lovers of all nations..."

original postcard next...
Part curiosity, part oddity, part roadside attraction, part- victorian, part- early California, the Ostrich is just strange and unusual.  I picked up this lot of items for $3.00.   It has unleashed a can of worms full of tangents and references.

Dear Rena,
I am in Pasadena - you know the Rose Bowl and parade. I will write and tell you more later.

Cannot read the date on the above card. An Ameilia sent the below item to Rena.  Did Amelia and Potsy visit the farm together? Or were they sent to Rena at different times, then stored together by Rena?

Ostrich Farms!

Cawston Ostrich Farm
with postcard animation!
1898 -1930?

Particularly noteworthy in the film... the creation of animation from historic postcards.  Cawston Ostrich Farm. The biggest and best Ostrich farm in the U.S.  All other Ostrich farms in the day attempted to emulate Cawston's Ostrich Farm.

Sacro Bosco dei Mostri Part II

I found this 1980 LP from an Ebay search of completed listings for "Bomarzo".  I am curious what the LP sounds like.  Continued from my earlier post about a visit to the garden where this ogre resides.
